Row, Row, Row Your Boat – TOA16 edition

Next week the Tech Open Air  takes over Berlin with a host of official activities and satellite events that promise to keep its attendees entertained throughout the week.

Noticeable among the many satellite events have been two that have chosen the open waters of Berlin’s river Spree as its location.

The first is Boats, Beer & BBQ (or, in German, Boat Pitch, Bier und Barbecue), where on the 14. July you can enjoy a beer and BBQ on the roof terrace of ]init[  overlooking the river and chat with various investors, business angels and other in tech. Additionally some startups will have the chance to head out onto the water and pitch their idea to investors. For these pitches you can apply UNTIL TODAY (7. July 2016) by sending an email with your pitch to Lucie  (l.volquartz@bitkom.org) and answering the following questions:

  • When was your company founded?
  • What is your product/business model?
  • What distinguishes you from the rest?

Participation for the event itself is free of charge, but you need to get your tickets here.

The second is the brilliant team at StartupBoat, who are hosting a workshop on water, limited to 60 attendees, on July 15 (also, the featured image above comes via their website).

The situation of refugees will be discussed, as well as what role the tech community has played/can play in this situation. Participants are further requested to prototype and build a scalable solution for the challenge, which sounds like a great approach to tackling a very real and current problem without remaining solely in the realms of the theoretical. Furthermore, this creates the space to trigger joint thinking and hopefully participants will develop their project further after the meeting in StartupBoat’s Migration Hub.

Open water and an open discussion on current crises? What is not to love! So grab your towel and grand ideas and head over to the river!

Sign-up here to snag one of the sixty spots!
